Welcome back to the Daily Huddle, a quick recap of the world of sports from today.
Honestly, there is nothing that I really care too much about happening today other than Monday Night Football, and I don't feel like staying up to watch the whole game and blog about it afterwards. So, what I will do for Most Monday and Sunday night football games is post the blog just before kickoff with my prediction and a pick to bet on for that game. I'm gonna save that until the end and I'll cover a couple quick hitting topics today before the NFL preview.
College Basketball
Really nothing too important here other than Baylor and Gonzaga both get to beat up a couple of crappy teams tonight, so good for them.
I am a student at Bryant University and my Bryant Bulldogs beat UMass today when we were an 8 point road underdog, so I will be taking that as a moral victory. Our starting PG, Michael Green III, lead all scorers with 33 today. Pop off kid.
Yeah that's all I got for that.
College Football
Bowl Season has officially begun with the Myrtle Beach Bowl taking place today. Appalachian State beat North Texas 56-28 in what could not have been a very exciting game.
With the College Football Playoff set yesterday, today was the day for everyone to complain about Ohio State getting the #3 seed. I really don't see why people can be mad about that. Yes they only played six games, yes there were teams with more wins and fairly strong schedules, but Ohio State is a power house and should be in this year's playoff if you ask me. On the other hand, I wish it was an eight team playoff so we could have a little bit more excitement, because having three teams all but guaranteed in the playoff before we start the season is not very fun to watch. I don't see much, if any, downside to an eight team playoff and I surely hope it comes soon.
NFL
Today the Pro Bowl rosters were released. Not too many surprises that I could see as I briefly scrolled through. I don't really care too much about the Pro Bowl and I doubt many of you do. The QBs for each conference are Rodgers, Wilson and Murray for the NFC and Mahomes, Allen and Watson for the AFC. Again, not too surprised with the exception of maybe Watson. I know he's good but the Texans kind of stink so I can see why they would've left him off but I guess I don't know who would've gotten the spot over him.
I don't think there is anything else in the NFL that was very newsworthy for me today, except for the crazy fact that the Cleveland Browns can go 11-5 and somehow still not make the playoffs. I think a couple teams need to win games that they could easily lose, but it is possible and, nothing against Cleveland fans, but I sort of hope it happens. In my perfect scenario, the Browns are a field goal away from going 12-4 and clinching a playoff spot, then Cody Parkey (famous for the Chicago Bears "Double-Doink") comes on to the field and doinks a kick for them to lose. Again, I have nothing against Cleveland or the Browns or anything like that, I just think it would be HILARIOUS is Parkey ruins another team's playoff hopes by doinking a kick.
Final Thoughts/MNF Preview
Not mush else in the sports world today that I cared much about, so let's get on to Monday Night Football. The Steelers travel to Cincinnati to play the Bengals tonight. The Bengals stink and they stink bad without Joe Burrow under center so I don't see much of a chance for them to win tonight. I wish Burrow didn't get hurt, because I loved him at LSU and I think he can really perform at the NFL level. If he was healthy today maybe they could keep it close, but I imagine the Steelers win this one by at least 10 points. For you sports bettors out there, I am on the OVER at 40.5 tonight. Pittsburgh has a pretty good offense with a few weapons all over the place and I think they might be able to get close to that total of 40.5 by themselves and expect the Bengals to punch in one or two touchdowns with hopefully a field goal or two to get us to that over. I am by no means a professional handicapper, I just look at the lines, maybe a stat or two and bet it. I think for legal reasons I'm supposed to write that the opinions on these blogs are mine and I am giving picks for entertainment and cannot be held accountable if you lose money. If you want to tail me, go ahead, if you want to fade me, that's fine too.
NBA games start tomorrow and I hope that will be exciting to watch. I am working on getting a writer or two who wants to write on Daily Fantasy Sports for those who are interested. Hopefully someone will come on board for that soon.
See ya tomorrow for another Daily Huddle and some NBA talk!
