You Can Now Bet Money on Charlie Woods

As we saw over the weekend from the PNC Championship, Tiger Woods' son, Charlie, is pretty damn good at this whole golf thing. The kid is 11 years old and a much better golfer than me and all of my friends who have been playing for 10 or 15 years. Obviously, his dad is Tiger Woods, arguably the greatest to ever hit the links. I like to think that if Tiger Woods taught me how to play golf since the day I was born, I'd have the perfect swing and the swagger that Charlie does as well. He's amazing and, like I said in yesterday's Daily Huddle, I can't wait to watch him take over the game of golf.

Sportsbettingdime.com, some online gambling and sports news site has put out odds for gamblers to place bets on Charlie Woods. The first bet is that Charlie Woods will win a Major Championship by the time he is 25 years old. It pays 825-1. That means if I decided to bet $100, I'd win $82,500. If he follows in the foot steps of his dad, Tiger, he'll have a Grand Slam at that point. Tiger had a Masters, a US Open, an Open Championship and TWO PGA Championships before he was 25 years old. If Charlie wants to be a golfer for the rest of his life, I'd probably place some cash on that 825-1 bet that SBD is offering. The only tough part about it is whether or not he wants to be a professional golfer forever. Based on how much fun him and his dad appeared to be having over the weekend, I'd say that golf isn't going anywhere anytime soon for Charlie.

I first saw that you could bet on Charlie to win a major as I scrolled through my Instagram feed today and, for some reason, I decided to read some comments. I normally hate reading comments on Instagram for a couple of reasons. One being all the bots spamming and the self promotions, the other being everyone seems to get all upset about stupid stuff. Of course, this post was no different. The top five or so comments I saw on this post said something along the lines of "this is sad, let the kid be a kid," or "how about we stop pressuring the kid?" and stuff like that. Here's my take: Just because some strangers that Charlie and Tiger have never met might bet on him to win doesn't add any pressure. Winning a major championship is already hard enough, and if Charlie wants to be a golfer then he's going to focus on that, not that fact that there are bets on him. This also is not a very uncommon type of bet. Rory McIlroy cashed at 500-1 when he won the Open Championship in 2014 at just 24 years old. Those odds were given to the public when Rory was just 15. Lastly, if he doesn't want to be a golfer forever he doesn't have to and these bets don't change that one bit. If he wants to give up golf his parents aren't going to say, "Well wait a minute, Charlie, people have money bet on you." That's crazy talk! He's a kid and he loves playing golf and he loves learning from his dad, so let him play golf with his dad and if there are gamblers out there that bet on him so what? It won't ruin his childhood and it won't change anything else out there.

From what I'm reading, there are a couple other bets out there you can place on Charlie Woods:

2-1 to earn his PGA Tour Card before he turns 24. There is NO WAY this bet doesn't cash unless he gives up golf.

1500-1 for him to win a Major Championship before the age of 22. Tiger won the Masters in '97 when he was just 21 so this is a cool goal for Charlie to beat or tie his dad.

And as I mentioned, 825-1 to win a Major before the age of 25.

Like I said, this is kinda cool that he's getting so much attention, and yeah it puts pressure on him, but even if he didn't have these bets out there, being Tiger Woods' son puts pressure on you anyway. I'm rooting for him to be the next Tiger Woods and I can't wait to see him win some pro tournaments in the future.
